Some Sales Tax Statistics There are 1371 community wide tax rates in the state of Illinois.  With the "Schutt" sales tax increase last year, there are only 313 of those communities with a higher sales tax rate than Litchfield's 7.25%.  If we add another 1%, the number of communities with higher rates than Litchfield will be down to 152.  Those numbers are shocking but if you exclude "Chicagoland," the numbers are downright frightening!  Excluding cook county, there are still 1241 community wide tax rates in Illinois.  There are only 179 that have rates higher than our 7.25% and with another 1% increase, there will only be 18 with a higher rate than Litchfield.  Tax rates as of 7/1/2010 (pdf file)
